If you don't know how regularly you'll be able to play, buy a one month sub, then immediately cancel the subscription. Once our schedules are a little more stable, I'll probably go back to 3 - but if I think I'm going to play for 20 days out of one month, I'd rather pay for 30 days rather than 90. I've recently switched from 3 month resub to 1 month because my GF and I have shaky availability and have a habit of dropping the game for weeks at a time. It is cheaper per month if you buy multiple months as opposed to one, but you're also paying more money for more time you might not use. But that seems unreasonably difficult and probably not worth the trouble for what will probably be a fraction of a fraction of a discount. There may not be any current discounts on the latest Final Fantasy XIV expansion, but it’s certainly worth keeping an eye out Newegg briefly offered a 20 discount on Standard Edition Endwalker pre-orders, which knocked the game’s price tag down to 31.99 (originally 39.99).
